You will be developing your own design. It can be what ever you want. Bring as many ideas or sketches as you would like. You will pick just one and develop it and make it into something that can really be produced. I like the student to work within a 36" by 36" or smaller format in class.

You will be the driving force for what ever techniques that will be taught.

Supplies Needed:

Equipment needed:

Sewing machine

Quarter inch piecing foot

A single needle plate for your sewing machine                    (recommended, not mandatory)

Size 75/11 machine embroidery needles

Mettler or DMC size 50/3 cotton thread (beige or gray) for piecing

Basic sewing Kit

Hard pressing Mat

Regular spray starch. (No spray sizing)

Freezer paper

Small stencil brush (3/8 in)

Water Soluble Basting Glue

Elmer’s watersoluble school glue stick

Permanent marking pen

Surgical/Angled tweezers

Scissors (Paper and fabric scissors)

Iron: You will need your own

The only one that I find is hot enough to work is a Rowena or Black & Decker travel iron. You will need to purchase one. This is a must-no other iron works as well.

You will also need:

Two Mirrors at least 10" square

Sketch Pad

Permanent Pen and a pencil with eraser

Drawing Ruler

Circle Template

Fabrics:

Bring what ever you think will be used for your quilt. I suggest:

5-7 1/4 yard of light fabrics

5-7 1/4 yard of medium fabrics

5-7 1/4 yard of dark fabrics

If your design is exciting bring more lights. If it is interesting bring more darks.

Skill Level:  Intermediate to Advanced Skill Levels.

Gina Perkes will show you how to create your own unique hand-dyed fabrics which will be the start of your next project!   She will take you through the process of selecting & preparing fabric for dying,  achieving mottled or solid results,  using hand-dyed fabrics in quilts and wearables, & much more!  Each student will create one series of rainbow gradations.  They will dye 30 fat quarters which will subtly shift from one color to the next.

No Such Thing As Ugly Fabric

 Lyn Mann

    1 Day

    $65

In this class, students will bring squares of ugly or hard to use fabrics to share.  They will also bring a variety of scraps.  We will construct a simple block while learning how to make any fabric great depending upon what you put with it.  Many layouts will be shown and explained.  This is a great class and many proclaim it to be the best they have ever taken.

Limited to 15 students.

Skill Level: All Skill Levels

Supplies:
SEWING MACHINE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION
BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES
ROTARY CUTTER,
MAT
8” BIAS SQUARE RULER (HELPFUL BUT NOT MANDATORY
1 ROLL 1 1/2” FINISHED HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE PAPERS ON A ROLL (AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT CLASS)
WE ARE GOING TO BRING SETS OF UGLY FABRICS (OR JUST HARD TO USE FABRICS) TO TRADE.       BRING 26 SETS OF 4 DIFFERENT 6” SQUARES OF 100% GOOD QUALITY COTTON, WASHED AND IRONED. PLEASE BRING EACH SET OF 4 FABRICS IN A SANDWICH BAGGY. YOU CAN GO THRU YOUR STASH TO FIND THE FABRICS. THE SETS DO NOT ALL HAVE TO BE THE SAME BUT EACH SET MUST HAVE 4 DIFFERENT FABRICS IN IT. IF YOU HAVE NO “UGLIES” IT WILL TAKE 3/4 YD. OF FABRIC FOR EACH ONE. AND PLEASE, NO SOLIDS. REMEMBER, WHAT YOU LEARN IS DIRECTLY BASED ON WHAT YOU BRING. THESE PACKETS MAY CONTAIN FABRICS THAT YOU DON’T THINK ARE BASICALLY UGLY BUT FOR ONE REASON OR THE OTHER, YOU FIND THEM DIFFICULT TO USE IN QUILTING.

IN ADDITION, BRING APPROX. 36  6” SQUARES OF FABRICS (NOT UGLIES) TO PAIR UP WITH THE UGLIES. THESE SHOULD BE A MIX OF LITE, MEDIUM AND DARKS IN A WIDE VARIETY OF COLORS AND PRINTS. TONE ON TONES ARE ACCEPTABLE HERE.

DUE TO ALLERGIES, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM WEARING PERFUME. THANK YOU!

Santa Fe Sampler

This is a traditional medallion quilt with a southwestern flair. Five different geometric borders surround a center medallion. Learn several cutting and quick machine piecing techniques. This is the featured pattern in AQS book that was released in spring 2005.

Limited to 15 students.

Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced skill levels.

Supplies:

If you are interested in making the whole quilt, I suggest you purchase the fabrics for the complete quilt.  The colors listed are the colors I selected and are to be used as reference when selecting your own fabric choices.

If you are only going to make a wall hanging with the center block and first border, I suggest you purchase the fabrics listed under the center medallion and first border only.

I would like students to come to class with the center block and first fabrics cut.
